Many of us say the Lords Prayer on a regular basis. When we pray “Thy Kindom come,
Thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven “. If we are sincere in our prayers, it is hard
to imagine that Gods will for our community includes a Casino.
When we pray “and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil” we are praying
to remove obstacles in our lives, so that we may grow closer to God. Why would we
want a casino in our community that we know will be an obstacle to some of us, our
family members, and neighbors?
A Collection of Applicable Bible Verses:
Ecclesiastes 2:11 (NASB1995) - The Futility of Pleasure and Possessions
Thus I considered all my activities which my hands had done and the labor which I had exerted, and behold all was vanity and striving after wind and there was no profit under the sun.
Matthew 6:24 (NASB1995) - Fasting; The True Treasure; Wealth
No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and wealth.
Matthew 25:14-30 (NASB1995) - Parable of the Talents (stewardship of God-given resources)
For it is just like a man about to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them. To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to their own ability; and he went on his journey. Immediately the one who had received the five talents went and traded with them, and gained five more talents. In the same manner the one who had received the two talents gained two more. But he who received one talent went away, and dug a hole in the ground and hid his masters money.
Now after a long time the master of those slaves *came and settled accounts with them. The one who had received the five talents came up and brought five more talents, saying 'Master, you entrusted five talents to me. See, I have gained five more talents.' His master said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.'
Also the one who had received the two talents came up and said, 'Master, you entrusted two talents to to me. See, I have gained two more talents.' His master said to him, 'Well done good and faithful slave. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master'
" And the one also who had received the one talent came up and said, 'Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you scattered no seed. And I was afraid, and went away and hid your talent in the ground. See, you have what is yours.'
But his master answered and said unto him, 'You wicked, lazy slave, you knew that I reap what I did not sow and gather where I scattered no seed. Then you ought to have put my money in the bank, and on my arrival I would have received my money back with interest. Therefore take away the talent from him, and give it to the one who has the ten talents'
"for to everyone who has, more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but from the one who does not have, even what he does have shall be taken away. Throw out the worthless slave into the outer darkness; in that place there will be gnashing of teeth.
Proverbs 13:11 (NASB1995) - Contrast the Upright and the Wicked
Wealth obtained by fraud dwindles, but the one who gathers by labor increases it.
Proverbs 28:20 (NASB1995) - Warnings and Instructions
A Faithful man will abound with blessings, but he who makes haste to be rich will not go unpunished.
Proverbs 28:22 (NASB1995) - Warnings and Instructions
A Man with an evil eye hastens after wealth and does not know that want will come upon him.
1 Timothy 6:9-11 (NASB1995) - Instructions to Those Who Minister
But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. But flee from these things, you man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness.
